The Gemini app can now make files for you, right in the chat. It can make documents, PDFs, slide decks and spreadsheets. You can open the file full screen and type your changes. Or highlight a part and ask Gemini to fix it.
Google says it is for all users, in every language the Gemini app supports.
What changed?
Before, you asked for something, got a big block of text, and had to copy it into a document yourself. Then you fixed it there.
Now the file shows up in the chat. You can:
- Preview it without leaving Gemini
- Open it full screen and type your own edits
- Highlight a part and ask a question about it, or ask Gemini to change it
- Ask Gemini to polish the whole file
Who can use it?
- Everyone with the Gemini app: personal Google accounts, Google Workspace business customers and Workspace Individual subscribers
- PDFs work on the web and on your phone
- Every other file type works on the web only, for now
How do you start?
Open the Gemini app and ask for the file you want. For example: "Make me a 1 page PDF checklist about..." When it shows up, open it to edit.
Try this: draft a free checklist for your clients
A short checklist is one of the easiest free gifts to give a new lead. Here is a fast way to draft one.
Make a 1 page PDF checklist called "[5 things to do before you ___]" for [who you help]. Use a short title, one sentence that says who it is for, 5 checkboxes with one short line each, and one line at the bottom that says how to work with me.
When the PDF shows up:
- Open it full screen and fix anything that does not sound like you.
- Highlight any line that is too long and ask: "Make this shorter and simpler."
- Read it one last time, out loud.
You can do steps 1 to 3 on your phone, since PDFs work on mobile.
What should you watch out for?
- Check every fact. Your name is on it.
- Make it sound like you. A checklist that sounds like anyone could have written it gets ignored. Add one tip only you would give.
- Get it out of the chat. Google says you can open a deck in Google Slides or download it as PowerPoint or PDF. You can open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets. You can save documents and PDFs to Google Drive. Try saving one file first to make sure it opens the way you want.
The bigger picture
Here's the thing. Your best free gift is often already in your head. You have explained it to clients 100 times. Now you can say it out loud and have a real draft in front of you.
