Can Gemini edit Google Slides? How to edit a whole deck

What came out: Gemini in Google Slides, editing many slides or a whole deck from one prompt, from Google, announced October 30, 2026

The quick answer

Yes. Gemini in Google Slides can now edit many slides, or a whole deck, from one prompt in the side panel. It can restyle your deck, update it from your Drive files, and merge or add slides. Google announced it on October 30, 2026, for Business and Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and Google AI Pro for Education.

Key takeaways

  • What it does: changes many slides, or your whole deck, from 1 prompt.
  • Where it works: in the Gemini side panel in Google Slides.
  • Who gets it: Business and Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and Google AI Pro for Education.
  • How to undo: the edits count as your own, so you can undo them or use version history.
  • When you get it: it started to roll out on October 29, 2026, and may take more than 15 days to reach you.

What is new in Gemini in Google Slides?

Gemini can now change a whole deck at once.

Now you type 1 prompt in the side panel. Gemini makes the changes right on your slides. They stay normal slides you can edit by hand.

When it is done, Gemini shows a short summary in the side panel. That way you can see what it changed.

Google lists 4 kinds of jobs it can do:

  • Restyle a deck: change the fonts, backgrounds and colors, or match the look of another deck.
  • Update the content: add details from your Google Drive files.
  • Combine slides: merge a few slides into 1, or add new ones.
  • Match the style: make every title look the same across the deck.

How is this different from making a new deck with Gemini?

Making a new deck is not new. Google added that in June 2026. You give Gemini 1 prompt and it builds a full deck for you.

You can even ask it to match the style of a deck you already have. First it shows you a plan. Then you approve it.

What is new is the next step. Now Gemini can also change a deck you already have, all of it at once. So it helps with the decks you made years ago, not only new ones.

Who can use Gemini to edit a whole deck?

You need one of these plans, from Google's own list:

  • Business: Business Standard and Business Plus.
  • Enterprise: Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus.
  • Personal: Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
  • School: the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.

It works in English only for now. Google's help page for making a new deck with Gemini says that works on a computer. Google has not said which devices this new whole deck editing works on.

Google says admins can't turn this feature on or off. If your plan has it, it shows up when the rollout reaches you.

How do you use Gemini to edit your slides?

Here is how, based on Google's help pages and its announcement.

  1. Open your deck in Google Slides on your computer.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini.
  3. In the side panel, type what you want to change across the deck.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Read the summary Gemini shows when it is done. Then check your slides.

Do you want Gemini to use a file? Name it in your prompt. Google's own example is "Update this whole deck to match the style of this [reference file]."

Try this: give an old workshop deck a fresh look

Most of us have a deck we have used for years. A workshop. A sales talk. A client kickoff. The words still work, but the look is old.

Open the old deck. Click Ask Gemini. Then type:

Update this whole deck to match the style of [your newest deck]. Keep all my words. Make every slide title the same size and color.

Look over the summary. Then flip through each slide.

Here's the thing. Ask for the changes in 1 prompt. Then check each slide with care.

Try this too: update a client deck from your notes

Imagine if your proposal deck caught up with your last call before you did.

Say you keep notes from client calls in a Google Doc. Open the client's deck, click Ask Gemini, and type:

Update this deck to include more details based on [your call notes doc]. Then summarize slides 5 to 7 into a single slide.

That second line comes straight from one of Google's own sample prompts.

Say it. It builds. You approve.

What should you watch out for?

  • Check every slide. Google says Gemini may not do every request, and what it makes may not be right. Read it before a client sees it.
  • The edits are real. They land in your deck as your own edits. If you don't like them, undo, or go back in Version history.
  • It may not be here yet. Google says it can take more than 15 days to show up.
  • Limits will change. Workspace users get higher limits until at least December 1, 2026. Per-user limits apply when that offer ends. Google says it will post the details in its Help Center first.
  • English only. At launch, it works in English only.

The bigger picture

You already build your decks in Google Slides. Now the AI works on the whole deck, not one slide. You still decide what stays.

The tools moved. The habits did not.
